Rashid Lane was born in California in 1990. In 1995, his family moved to Texas where he currently resides. During this time, he developed a passion for drawing and painting. He continued pursing his art through formal education. After finishing his secondary school studies in Palestine, TX, he decided to attend Texas A&M University-Commerce.
In 2013, he was awarded his Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in Art Education with a Summa Cum Laude Recognition. Encouraged by friends and family, 2 years later, he attained a Master’s of Education from A&M-Commerce. While in undergraduate school, he was awarded the Undergraduate Excellence Award in one of the Student Exhibits. In graduate school, he worked with artist, Patrick Dougherty, on a public art project. The piece they created is titled, "Deep in The Heart" and is on view at Texas A&M University - Commerce.
Rashid, is inspired by art that connects with people and has far-reaching community impact. Messages he strives to convey through his paintings include: hope, liberation, and truth. He hopes to awaken something within each viewer, prompting them to understand what it means to be present and engaged.
He is passionate about youth and community based art projects. He is now an Art Educator, sharing his gift with students, helping them dive deep within themselves, to awaken their creative souls. Rashid loves being a part of the bridge that can link students to self-discovery and believes that each of his students has a voice that deserves to be heard.
